Midweek thoughts

Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”                Mark 10:43-45

At one point during his ministry, James and John asked Jesus if they could sit at his left and right hands. They wanted positions of influence, they wanted to be seen as powerful. Jesus reminded them strongly that they were thinking in earthly ways not Kingdom ways.

We struggle following this instruction from Jesus. Even in the church it is rare to have too many volunteers for most tasks, let alone menial ones. Too often we fail at supporting those who are carrying the burden of the church. Leadership is complained about, missions are short handed and simple gratitude can be lacking.

We serve Christ by serving each other. Let us adopt the attitude of servant, seeking ways to lift others, eagerly shouldering the work of the church and walking in humility so we can show the world who He is. Let our actions preach his message as clearly as our words.
