[Jesus] said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. — Luke 5:4-6 (NKJV)
Do Things God’s Way
In today’s scripture, after a long night of not catching any fish, Jesus tells Peter to try one more time. What Jesus told Peter to do probably didn’t make any sense to him, and I doubt that he felt like doing it, but he still did what Jesus said, and he received what was probably the biggest catch of his fishing career.
Like Peter, being led by your thoughts, ideas, and emotions won’t bring in a big catch. But when you do what God says quickly, whether it makes any sense to you or not, your blessings will amaze you!
Prayer Starter: Father, please help me to trust Your voice over everyone else’s, including mine. Thank You for giving me the grace to follow Your directions when they don’t make sense, and for the blessings that are coming! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
Meditation from Joyce Meyers Ministries, July 22, https://joycemeyer.org/dailydevo
Reminder: Due to the unusually high heat and humidity forecast this summer and the increase in PA Covid restrictions, Rouzerville UMC has decided to hold worship online only through the end of August. We will all miss the opportunity to be in community physically, but we feel this is the safest, most reliable scheduling decision.
We will continue to tape and post a message each Sunday and to mail a written message weekly. Your financial gifts can be mailed to PO Box 3, Rouzerville PA 17250. Our expenses continue even when we are out of the building
Please check up on friends neighbors and anyone living alone. The church is not closed, we are deployed!
If you have a prayer request, if you want a willing ear, don’t be afraid to reach out. Call me or another member of the congregation. We are in this together because together we are God’s church.
